Doorbell and Entry Systems

Many people have doorbells installed in their homes. They are a simple and fairly inexpensive device to install to alert you when someone is at your front door. However, there are also some doorbell and entry systems that are designed to enhance the overall security of your home.

There are some doorbell entry systems that are specifically designed to alert you in a couple of different ways when someone arrives at your door. Instead of a tone sounding throughout certain rooms of your house, you can purchase a system that will actually send the tone to your telephone. When the doorbell is pressed, a tone is sent to every phone that is installed in your home, thus ensuring that you do not miss anyone's arrival.

This is actually a very good security system because it allows you the opportunity to pick up the phone and speak to the person at your door without having to open it. This can be an excellent enhancement to an alarm system that you might already have in place. You might also choose to have motion detectors installed at each of the entry points to your home in addition to the specialized doorbell system. This would create a sort of alternative to an actual alarm system. Depending on your budget, this option might be a better fit for you.

You can also have keypads installed at your front door as an additional security measure. Most people simply rely on a lock and key to safeguard their homes, but the added protection of an electronic keypad can provide an additional measure of security for your family. Plus, keyless entry systems allow you a certain measure of convenience simply because you do not have to juggle packages, briefcases, or other belongings while trying to insert a key into a lock.

For additional security, you could also have a video camera system installed at your front door. These systems can be purchased as wired or wireless, and should probably be installed by a qualified professional to ensure accuracy. The video feed from the camera can be sent to a video monitor that you have set up anywhere in your home. Ideally, you will want to choose a room that is used often by members of your family, but you do not want it to be obtrusive. In other words, you will probably not want to have the security monitor installed in your living room.

If you have a designated office space in your home, this would be an ideal location for your video monitoring equipment to be installed. Once you have it up and running, take the time to ensure that each family member understands how to operate the equipment.

Before you choose a doorbell and entry system, however, you need to make sure that you consult with at least two different companies that provide this equipment. Talk to them about their coverage policies, their warranties and guarantees, and of course the total cost of the equipment that you will be purchasing. It never hurts to obtain cost estimates from several different companies so that you can adequately compare your options and choose the one that is best for you and your family.

Keep in mind that some doorbell and entry systems also come with security alarm packages. If you find a company that offers this type of complete home package, it might save you some money to purchase an all-in-one system rather than purchasing different home security items individually.
