10 Ways to Secure Your Car
There are some basic measures you can take to ensure that your car is secure. This article will give you some great ideas you can use to prevent your car from being stolen.
Never leave your windows rolled down. Regardless of how hot it is outside don't leave your car unattended with any of the windows down, or even cracked. This is an invitation for thieves to try to break in.
Don't leave your keys in the ignition. This may seem quite obvious, but you might be surprised how many people do this on a regular basis thinking that no one will bother their car.
Have an alarm system installed. This is actually one of the best things you can do to deter thieves. Make sure you attach stickers to your car windows announcing the fact that your car is equipped with an alarm system. Often times this simple warning will keep people from attempting to steal your car.
Always park your car near other vehicles and make sure that the location is lighted properly at night. Darkness and isolation will make your car a much more likely target for thieves.
Lock your car doors at all times. This is another pretty obvious tip, but so many people leave their cars unlocked thinking that nothing bad will happen. Even if you are only going to be away from your car for a couple of minutes, you should still lock it up before you walk away. It won't take you that long to unlock it when you come back.
Don't keep extra keys in or on your car. Sometimes people think that they are being cautious by storing an extra car key in case they lose theirs. Don't forget that thieves can find those stored keys just as easily as you can.
Never leave personal items lying out in the open. Leaving cds, dvds, money, credit cards, jewelry, or other personal items in plain sight is a very bad move. Someone may decide to break into your car just to get to the items that he sees lying on the passenger seat. Once inside your car, it is more than likely that he will wind up stealing your car as well as your possessions.
Do not leave your car running while you're not in it. Even if you think you're only going to be gone for a few seconds, you should always know that that is more than enough time for an observant car thief to take your vehicle and speed away in it.
Consider tinted windows. Having tinted windows on your car is a wonderful way to deter thieves. It makes it much more difficult for thieves to look inside your car to spot any belongings that you have lying around, and it also makes it more difficult for them to tell if someone is actually in the car.
Think about buying an economical anti-theft device such as a steering wheel lock. These locks offer an extra level of protection to prevent thieves from being able to steal your car. If a would-be thief sees one of these in your car he will be much less likely to even bother breaking in because these kinds of locks are very difficult to remove.
